For years, people have been arguing about the US military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, but now it seems like it might actually change.
According to a Fox News article, and a CNN.Com article, the US Senate is set to start debating on this as soon as next week. Last week's ruling by the federal court of the policy being unconstitutional, and the repeal of the policy being included in the military spending bill has stirred the pot on this issue.
I don't know how the military gets away with it, but you gotta give them props for sticking to their guns when they say "This ruling has no impact on the current law." I wish I could say that when it comes to some of the random stuff that comes out of the courts these days.
I for one am for the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy only in the sense that whatever your sexual orientation might be, the workplace, especially if that workplace is the field of battle, is no place for you to be sharing that stuff. If it's not pertinent to the task at hand, or improving moral, then don't bring it up.

Pastor Koran-burning Event
As I searched the internet this evening to see what's happening in the world, I came across this report on NBC Nightly News about a Florida Minister, Terry Jones, who has officially declared Sept., 11, "International Burn a Koran Day." Pull up the video on the here for the details if you haven't read or seen it yet.
Personally, for a so-called-man of God to go about and burn another religion's holiest text, seems highly contradictory. I seem to remember the Lord saying "Love One Another," but I'm no Bible scholar.
He wants to send a "message" to Muslims in general, and radical Muslims specifically. I guess he's not cognizant of the fact that he himself in doing so becomes a radical Christian.

Why NonCognizant?

I like to think of myself as your average middle of the road person. There are some things I'm liberal about, and some things I'm conservative about.
Lately though, I've started to get fed up with watching/listening/reading the news to the point where I just don't care as much as I used to about what's going on in the world. There's always some person or group of people discussing issues that affect the many, very matter-of-factly, without realizing what they are saying is nonsense.
Hence the name of the blog. The Unknowing, Unaware world, or NonCognizant for short. Ideally, I would have loved to call it Common Nonsense, or something cool like that, but like most great internet names, it was already taken by someone else who hasn't posted something in the last 8 years. After looking at a thesaurus, I thought the word Cognizant sounded catchy.
cog·ni·zant (kog-nuh-zuhnt) adj:
knowledgeable of something; to be aware
And so i set forth on my first real blogging experience, to poke fun at the news of the day by pointing out the nonsense they seem to not know or be aware they are saying. In the process, I will most likely spout my own kind of nonsense many, many times. But hey, better to express my thoughts and feelings on this, than to create drama at work by talking politics at the office.
Enjoy...
