Pastor Koran-burning Event

As I searched the internet this evening to see what's happening in the world, I came across this report on NBC Nightly News about a Florida Minister, Terry Jones, who has officially declared Sept., 11, "International Burn a Koran Day." Pull up the video on the here for the details if you haven't read or seen it yet.

Personally, for a so-called-man of God to go about and burn another religion's holiest text, seems highly contradictory. I seem to remember the Lord saying "Love One Another," but I'm no Bible scholar.

He wants to send a "message" to Muslims in general, and radical Muslims specifically. I guess he's not cognizant of the fact that he himself in doing so becomes a radical Christian.

I swear half the problems on this planet are because of religious zealots, Christian, Muslim, or otherwise, taking it upon themselves to "speak" for the rest of the members, to forward the "cause." The same way we Americans tend to generalize all Muslims as this radical people that are out to destroy us because of the actions (terrible actions nonetheless) of a small percentage, so will the rest of the Muslim world see America. Shoot, I know I would be pissed if someone burned the Bible to send Christians a "message." What Christian wouldn't?

So how does this guy have the gall, to go out and basically declare himself a spokesman for all American Christians and do this. What's next on this slippery slope Jones, and others like him, are sliding down? Burning library books, going after the different Christian denominations that don't see the world the same way they do?

Does Jones not realize that the same Constitutional rights that give him the freedom to burn the Koran, are the same freedoms he wants to deny others? For goodness sakes, Islam is the second largest religion in the world after Christianity. Why does he want to disrespect the many to send a message to the few? I had Muslim friends who served honorably with me in the Army, fighting for this great country and the freedom it provides, only to be spat in the face basically by bigots like this who only spread fear and hatred, rather than love and upliftment.

I have learned that to gain respect, one must give it as well. Instead of 9/11 serving as a day of remembrance, Mr. Jones wants to instigate radical Christians to ignite animosity, and which will be responded by radical Muslims with more hatred, which radical Christians will then react to and radical Muslims will respond to said reaction, and so on and so forth, leaving the rest of us, Christian and Muslim, in the middle.
